Malabar Garden Diptych

This set of paintings was commissioned by a relatively new farm stay that has opened outside Bangalore, close to Bannerghata Tiger Reserve. The diptych hangs in the main recreation hall and covers two vertical sections of wall adjoining a large window. All my client wanted were colourful birds from Kerala. I decided to include a continuous tree length going across both the canvasses to make the diptych more interesting and add a special touch to the curious and friendly racket tailed drongos on each piece. All the birds are depicted with their partners. The piece includes golden and black hooded orioles, bulbuls, drongos and crimson sunbirds, an endemic to Kerala’s wet tropical evergreen forests.
